IED Blast in Chaman Injures Three Civilians, FC Personnel Unharmed

An improvised explosive device (IED) blast targeting a truck carrying Frontier Corps (FC) personnel injured three civilians on Friday in Chaman, Balochistan. According to the police, the IED was planted on a motorcycle and detonated as the truck was en route from an army fort to an FC fort.

The Balochistan inspector general of police’s public relations officer, Rabia Tariq, confirmed in a statement that the FC personnel aboard the truck were unharmed. Among the injured civilians, two sustained minor injuries and were treated on the spot, while the third victim required hospitalization.

Government Condemnation

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind condemned the attack, labeling it a “cowardly act” aimed at disrupting peace in the region. He reiterated the government’s resolve to protect citizens and vowed that the perpetrators would face justice. “All resources are being utilized to maintain law and order,” Rind stated, urging the public to report any suspicious activities.

Rising Terrorism in Balochistan

The incident follows a deadly car bomb attack last Saturday in the Behan area near Turbat. In that attack, an explosive-laden vehicle rammed into a bus carrying FC personnel, killing six people and injuring over 50, including Senior Superintendent of Police Zohaib Mohsin and his family. The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the blast through its Majeed Brigade.

These attacks underscore a worrying escalation in terrorism-related incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In 2024, Pakistan recorded one of its deadliest years in a decade, with 444 terror attacks resulting in 1,612 fatalities, including 685 security personnel. The number of civilians and security forces killed surpassed militant losses, signaling the heightened vulnerability of law enforcement and the public.

Conclusion

The blast in Chaman is yet another grim reminder of the security challenges facing Balochistan. While the government and security forces pledge to uphold peace, the increasing frequency of such incidents calls for heightened vigilance and robust counterterrorism strategies.
