India Failed to Defend False Claims at SCO, Says Khawaja Asif

Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that India failed to uphold its false narrative during the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting, highlighting that all member states supported Pakistan’s stance on key regional issues.

Speaking to Geo News, Khawaja Asif emphasized that India’s attempt to distort facts — particularly regarding the Indus Waters Treaty and its broader regional conduct — was effectively countered by Pakistan on an international platform.

“India could not maintain its wrong and false stance at a very important forum like the SCO,” Asif remarked.

He said that no party has the authority to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, refuting recent Indian claims made in the wake of the Pahalgam attack.

“India is acting stubbornly. After being defeated by Pakistan, Modi is trying to protect his image through a false narrative,” Asif added. “But the truth is, Modi’s political life is over.”

SCO Proceedings Remained Cordial

Regarding the proceedings of the SCO summit, the defense minister clarified that the atmosphere was free of hostility, and that the forum operated strictly within its rules of procedure. He pointed out that no leader, including India’s defense minister, was allowed to directly respond to another member's speech during the session.

“Criticism or rebuttal is not permitted in the SCO after someone’s speech. The Indian minister did not get that chance,” Asif explained.

He further stated that Pakistan’s stance received broad agreement from SCO member states, underlining Islamabad’s position as a rational and responsible actor in the regional security and diplomatic landscape.

Context

Tensions between India and Pakistan have once again flared following India’s attempt to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, a move widely condemned by international experts and now publicly refuted by Pakistani leadership at the SCO forum.

The SCO summit, which gathered top leaders and defense ministers from across Eurasia, provided Pakistan with a platform to expose India’s false narratives and reaffirm its commitment to regional peace and cooperation.
