Intermittent Rain Provides Much-Needed Relief in Lahore Amid Ongoing Heatwave

Intermittent rain has been reported across various parts of Lahore, alleviating the severe heatwave that has gripped the city for weeks. Areas such as Gulberg, Cantt, Saddar, Model Town, and Ferozepur Road experienced a combination of light and heavy showers, contributing to a more pleasant atmosphere.

Weather Forecast and Impact

According to the Met Department, the city is expected to remain cloudy throughout the day, with a thunderstorm forecasted for tomorrow. This weather shift has also been felt in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, where rain has significantly cooled temperatures. The highest rainfall recorded was 43mm at Saidpur Road, raising concerns about potential flooding as the water level in Nullah Leh reached 11 feet at Gawalmandi.

Rainfall Across the Region

Other cities also experienced varying degrees of rainfall. In Jhelum, rain accompanied by gusty winds led to water accumulation in low-lying areas, posing challenges for traders in the main bazaar. Similarly, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, and Wazirabad saw heavy rains, which, while bringing about pleasant weather, also resulted in power outages in several areas.

In Mianwali, the heavy downpour has broken the heatwave, although concerns of flooding in low-lying areas remain. The Met Department predicts further intermittent rain over the next 12 hours in Narowal, with temperatures expected to cool across the region.

Public Safety Alerts

Despite the inconveniences caused by power outages and waterlogging in some areas, the rains have brought relief to millions suffering from intense heat and high humidity. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution, particularly on slippery roads. The Motorway Police have issued warnings for careful driving under wet conditions.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Alert

In response to the rainfall, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued an alert for various districts, including Lahore. PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia directed deputy commissioners and relevant departments to remain vigilant in managing emergency situations.

Kathia stated that the district emergency operation centers across the province have been alerted and are actively monitoring the situation following the rain. Rescue 1122 and other agencies have been instructed to keep their machinery and staff on standby. He also advised citizens to stay cautious and avoid electric poles and hanging wires during this weather.
