Iran Targets Israeli Bases as US-Israel War Enters Third Week

Iran’s military announced on Thursday that it has targeted Israeli military bases, including Palmachim and Ovda airbases, as well as the headquarters of Israel’s Shin Bet, marking a continued escalation in the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran. The conflict is now entering its third week, with no signs of de-escalation.

Missile alerts were reported in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and northern Israel, while the Israeli military attempted to intercept incoming missiles. Israel responded with another “wide-scale” round of air strikes across Iran. According to Israeli officials, at least 13 people have been killed and nearly 2,000 injured in Israel since the war began on February 28.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian reiterated Tehran’s commitment to regional peace but said the conflict could only end if Iran’s “legitimate rights” are recognized. In a post on X, he noted discussions with leaders of Russia and Pakistan and accused the US and Israel of igniting the war. Pezeshkian called for reparations and international guarantees against future attacks.

The conflict has caused extensive civilian damage in Iran. Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian reported that 1,395 people have been killed, with hospitals and medical facilities damaged. Twelve major hospitals are now inactive, and many civilians remain trapped under rubble. Oil depots, energy, and water infrastructure have also been hit, raising concerns about electricity shortages and public health risks in cities like Karaj and Tehran.

The Iranian Red Crescent Society stated that nearly 20,000 civilian buildings, including 16,000 residential units, have been affected by the strikes. Analysts note that Israel’s tactics resemble its conduct during the Gaza war in 2023, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure.

Iranian parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf warned that any US attack on Iranian islands in the Gulf, including the Kharg oil terminal, would provoke Tehran to “abandon all restraint.” Several of these islands host strategic military installations and critical energy export terminals.

As the war intensifies, diplomatic efforts continue, with Russia in close contact with Iranian leaders, while Washington has yet to respond to Iran’s claims. Both sides have reported mounting casualties and destruction, highlighting the humanitarian crisis and escalating regional instability.
