Following his election, Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei delivered his first message, signaling a hardline stance in the ongoing regional conflict.
In an audio statement released publicly, Khamenei declared that he would avenge the blood of Iranian martyrs and reaffirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to exert pressure on adversaries. He stressed that the unity and support of the Iranian people are central to his leadership, describing them as a “great nation” whose backing gives him legitimacy.
“The enemies are targeting the Iranian people, and we must defeat them,” Khamenei said. “We will not abandon the right to avenge our martyrs. The attacks will continue until American bases in the Middle East are removed.”
Khamenei clarified that Iran’s operations will target military installations exclusively, underscoring that civilian populations are not the focus of the ongoing campaign. He specifically referenced the martyrs of the Manab School and vowed to honor their sacrifices.
The new Supreme Leader’s statement comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where US and Israeli military presence has drawn sharp Iranian criticism. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to friendly relations with neighboring countries, while signaling a firm military response against perceived aggressors.
Analysts warn that Khamenei’s uncompromising rhetoric could escalate regional instability, particularly in the Gulf, where the closure of the Strait of Hormuz could impact global oil markets and international shipping routes.
