Ishaq Dar Expresses Hope for Peace, Stability in Iran During Call with Iranian FM

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday expressed Pakistan’s hope for peace and stability in Iran, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO).

The FO said Dar held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which the two leaders discussed the current situation in Iran and the broader regional developments.

During the call, Dar conveyed Pakistan’s desire for calm and stability in the neighbouring country. Both sides also agreed to continue bilateral consultations on matters of mutual interest, the FO added.

The conversation comes amid heightened international concern over unrest in Iran, where large-scale protests erupted in recent weeks over economic hardships, including rising inflation and cost of living. Authorities in Iran imposed internet restrictions as demonstrations spread across multiple cities.

Earlier this week, Pakistan reiterated its stance at the United Nations Security Council, expressing hope for an early normalisation of the situation in Iran. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Ahmad, described Iran as a “brotherly country” and highlighted the deep historical, cultural, religious and friendly ties between the two nations.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump had repeatedly threatened intervention in support of Iranian protesters but later announced that he had decided against military action. International monitors reported that protests have largely subsided following a security crackdown.

On the same day, FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi emphasised that instability in Iran does not suit Pakistan, noting that peace in Iran is directly linked to Pakistan’s own security and regional interests. He also confirmed that Pakistan was engaging with Washington regarding tariffs imposed on countries trading with Iran.

Earlier this week, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam thanked Pakistan for its political and moral support during a meeting with National Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Authority Chairman Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem, stressing that Iran valued diplomatic solidarity over material assistance.
