POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday to participate in a two-day Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers’ summit, where major issues affecting the Muslim world—particularly the situations in Palestine, Iran, and Kashmir—will be discussed.
Dar was warmly received at the airport by Pakistan’s Consul General in Istanbul, Fawad Sher, and Senior Diplomatic Officer Junaid Yusuf. The summit, scheduled to begin tomorrow, is expected to bring together foreign ministers and diplomats from across the Muslim world at a time of growing regional instability.
The OIC meeting will include a special session addressing Israeli aggression on Iran, with the objective of developing a unified stance among member states. The session comes amid increasing hostilities in the Middle East, where Israeli strikes and regional tensions have intensified.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will deliver the opening address, setting the tone for the summit, while Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan is also expected to make important remarks outlining Riyadh’s position on key geopolitical challenges.
A significant focus of the conference will also be on the Kashmir issue, as a special meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for Sunday. The group will deliberate on strategies to amplify support for the Kashmiri people and formulate a coordinated response to ongoing human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
The summit offers Pakistan a key opportunity to reinforce its stance on Palestine, Iran, and Kashmir, while working with fellow OIC members to promote Muslim unity and diplomatic consensus in addressing shared global challenges.
Deputy PM Ishaq Dar is expected to hold several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit to further strengthen diplomatic ties and discuss regional cooperation initiatives.
