Jeey Sindh Qaumi Mahaz Chairman Sanan Khan Qureshi Calls for National Rally Against Canal Projects on Indus

Karachi — In a bold statement, Sanan Khan Qureshi, Chairman of Jeey Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, declared that the people of Sindh had voiced their strong opposition to the ongoing canal projects by celebrating Eid in the name of Sindh. He emphasized that Sindh's survival is closely tied to the health of the Indus River, which is the province's lifeblood.

Sanan Khan Qureshi also announced that a national rally will be held on April 7 in Ratideri, commemorating the 13th death anniversary of Shaheed Bashir Khan Qureshi, a key figure in Sindh's struggle for its rights. The rally will feature a major announcement against the proposed six canals originating from the Indus, which have raised significant concerns regarding water distribution and the long-term impact on Sindh's agriculture and economy.

Defending Sindh’s Lifeblood:

In his statement, Qureshi called for unity among Sindh's people to fight against the canal projects. “The Indus is the lifeblood of Sindh. If we cannot save the Indus, Sindh will cease to exist,” he stated, underlining the dire consequences of these projects.

He also expressed his concern about the Punjab government’s persistence in pursuing these projects, despite the growing protests from Sindhi political and civil groups. “If the Punjab government does not withdraw from the canal project, we will block their roads,” Qureshi warned, signaling the escalation of protests if their demands are not met.

The Struggle for Water Rights:

The proposed canal projects have been a point of contention for years, with many in Sindh believing that the diversion of water from the Indus River to other provinces will lead to irreparable damage to Sindh's agriculture, ecology, and overall livelihood. Qureshi’s call for a unified protest against the canals is part of a broader movement to ensure fair distribution of water and protection of Sindh’s rights.

Looking Ahead:

The national rally on April 7 is expected to bring together a wide range of political, social, and civil groups from across Sindh, all united in their demand to protect the Indus River and resist any actions that threaten the province’s water rights. As tensions rise, Jeey Sindh Qaumi Mahaz continues to spearhead the fight for Sindh’s survival.

The rally is expected to be a defining moment in the ongoing struggle for Sindh’s future, with Qureshi promising further actions if their demands are ignored.
