JI Leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman Criticizes Government and Calls for Recognition of Hamas at Gaza Million March

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has accused the Pakistani government of allowing democracy to be derailed in favor of pro-American regimes, suggesting that such actions are a step towards recognizing Israel. Speaking at the Gaza Million March in Peshawar on Sunday, he urged the government to recognize Hamas and bring injured Palestinians to Pakistan for treatment.

Naeem-ur-Rehman highlighted the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, noting that thousands of Palestinians have been killed, with many still trapped under debris. He emphasized that despite the immense suffering, Palestinians have continued their struggle against Israeli aggression without begging for mercy.

He called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir to convene a meeting with the armed forces and political leaders to send a strong message to Israel, stating that the current situation is unacceptable. The JI emir also criticized the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) for its perceived inaction, questioning what the OIC has accomplished in response to the crisis.

Discussing Pakistan's domestic issues, Naeem-ur-Rehman pointed out that the public was aware of increased taxation even before the annual budget was announced. He lamented the ongoing militancy in the country, which has claimed thousands of lives and cost the national exchequer Rs150 billion over the past 22 years.

Emir of JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Professor Muhammad Ibrahim, expressed his outrage over the killing of over 35,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, by Israeli forces in Gaza. He characterized the Gaza Million March as a "Jihad conference for Palestine" and called on the government to allow volunteers to fight for Palestinian independence.

Former senator Mushtaq Ahmed suggested that the only effective way to halt Israeli atrocities was to hold sit-ins outside key government buildings and the US embassy in Islamabad.

The event underscored the strong sentiments within JI and its leadership regarding the Palestinian cause, highlighting their call for concrete actions from the Pakistani government and international community.
