POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Hyderabad: The Chairman of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Sanan Qureshi, has announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed with simplicity this year in protest against the construction of canals and dams on the Indus River.
Qureshi has called upon landowners and supporters to wear black bands on Eid as a symbolic protest.
He reiterated that no dam or canal on the Indus River is acceptable, as the livelihoods and happiness of 70 million Sindhis depend on its natural flow.
The call for protest reflects growing concerns among Sindhi nationalists over water distribution and control of Sindh’s primary water source. Qureshi’s stance aligns with longstanding demands for Indus water rights and opposition to upstream diversions.
The symbolic black-band protest is expected to gain momentum among Sindh’s farmers, activists, and political circles as they continue their resistance against water projects they believe threaten Sindh’s agricultural and ecological balance.
