Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Becomes Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, has been sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court and attended by fellow judges and the Attorney General of Pakistan.

The oath was administered by Justice Muneeb Akhtar in a formal ceremony that marked a temporary transition in judicial leadership.

Justice Shah assumes the role of Acting Chief Justice during the official visit of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, who has departed for China to attend an international judicial conference. The event, hosted in the city of Hangzhou, is scheduled to run from April 22 to April 26, and includes participation from high-level delegations of various judicial bodies.

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court, the conference aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among global judicial systems. Chief Justice Afridi is representing Pakistan at this prestigious international forum, alongside a delegation from the country’s high courts.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is known for his reform-oriented approach and emphasis on judicial independence, transparency, and the use of technology in the justice system. His temporary tenure as Acting Chief Justice is expected to continue until the return of Chief Justice Afridi.

The appointment of Justice Shah as Acting Chief Justice reflects the continuity and stability of Pakistan’s judicial system during high-level international engagements.
