A local court in Karachi has cancelled the interim bail of Dumper Association President Liaquat Mehsud and declared him directly responsible in a case involving the death of a young man who was first hit by a dumper and later shot. Following the verdict, Liaquat Mehsud reportedly fled the court, while police have been ordered to arrest his guard.
The incident occurred on the night of November 3 in the Ramaswamy area on Nishtar Road, when a dumper struck a citizen, killing him instantly and injuring his wife. Angered by the accident, locals set the dumper on fire. Liaquat Mehsud arrived at the scene accompanied by an armed guard, escalating tensions further. Video evidence shows that his guard opened fire on the crowd, creating panic among residents.
The court noted that the incident was not merely a riot but a serious act falling under anti-terrorism provisions. The investigating officer confirmed that video evidence clearly shows an accomplice firing a weapon. Although Mehsud claimed to have a valid arms permit, records revealed it had expired in October, making the weapon illegal at the time of the incident.
The plaintiff’s lawyer highlighted that the indiscriminate firing by Mehsud’s guards created fear and insecurity among citizens. After reviewing all evidence and arguments, the court rejected Mehsud’s bail and withdrew his earlier protection order.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori condemned the incident, stating that drawing weapons on citizens is unacceptable, and assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible.
With the court’s decision, the police now have stronger grounds to arrest Liaquat Mehsud and his guard, intensifying the ongoing legal proceedings in the case.
