Karachi Police Arrest 17 in Deadly Bugti Clan Shootout, Five Killed and Two Injured

Karachi police have arrested 17 suspects following a violent clash between members of the Bugti clan that left five people dead and two others critically injured. The incident occurred late Thursday night near the residence of Fahad Ahmed Nawaz Bugti in the Defence Housing Authority’s (DHA) Khayaban-i-Nishat area.

Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) South, Asad Raza, confirmed the arrests, stating that the detained individuals belong to both factions involved in the gunfight. "Eight individuals were arrested soon after the incident, while the remaining suspects were detained early Friday morning," Raza explained.

The deadly confrontation erupted between two groups led by Fahad Ahmed Nawaz Bugti and Ali Haider Bugti. Fahad, a nephew of the slain Baloch chieftain Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, was killed in the shootout, along with 35-year-old Naseebullah Bugti. Three others from Ali Haider's group, including his sons Meer Mohsin Bugti and Mir Essa Bugti, and their gunman Ali, also lost their lives. Ali Haider and his associate Qaim Ali Qadir sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) for treatment, where they remain under police guard as suspects in the clash.

The initial investigation revealed conflicting accounts from both sides. Fahad's group claimed they acted in self-defense after being attacked by Ali Haider's men, while Ali Haider's faction asserted they were ambushed first. CCTV footage obtained by the police showed the violent exchange, with both groups heavily armed and engaging in gunfire near the main gate of Fahad's residence.

The incident has raised concerns over the ongoing tribal conflicts within the Bugti family, highlighting the need for increased security and conflict resolution measures in the region. Police continue to investigate the motive behind the visit of Ali Haider’s group to Fahad’s residence and the events leading up to the tragic confrontation.

Authorities have performed post-mortem examinations on the deceased at both the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and the Civil Hospital Karachi, confirming multiple firearm injuries on all victims.

As the investigation progresses, Karachi police urge the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activities related to the incident.
