Karachi Ranked Second Riskiest City for Tourists in Forbes Adviser Report

Karachi has been ranked as the second riskiest city for tourists, with an alarming rating of 93.12 out of 100. The report, released on July 11, positions Karachi just behind Caracas, Venezuela, which scored a perfect 100, and ahead of Yangon, Myanmar, which scored 91.67.

The report highlights Karachi's high personal security risks, encompassing threats from crime, violence, terrorism, natural disasters, and economic instability. The city also received the second-worst travel safety rating from the U.S. State Department, categorized as level 3, advising travelers to reconsider visiting.

Forbes Adviser evaluated 60 international cities across seven key metrics to determine the most and least risky destinations for tourists. Karachi's position as the second riskiest city underscores ongoing challenges in personal and infrastructure security. The city was noted for having the fourth-highest infrastructure security risk, reflecting concerns about the availability and quality of its infrastructure.

This ranking adds to Karachi's history of being listed among the world's "unlivable" cities. In 2017, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Karachi among the top five "least livable" urban centers globally. The city has consistently appeared in various reports highlighting its safety and livability issues.

In stark contrast, the report named Singapore the safest city in the world with a score of 0, followed by Tokyo, Japan with a score of 10.72, and Toronto, Canada with a score of 13.6.

Karachi's ranking as the second riskiest city for tourists raises concerns about the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors. The city administration faces a significant challenge in addressing these risks and improving Karachi's global reputation.
