Former MP Sardar Shahryar Khan Shar Attacked in Neek Moh; Close Associate Killed and Others Injured

An attack by more than 15 unidentified armed men has left one person dead and two others seriously injured as they targeted the vehicle of former Member of Parliament Sardar Shahryar Khan Shar near the Ranoti Kachi area at Neek Moh.

 

The incident occurred as Shar was returning from a meeting with his community, where discussions aimed at resolving a tribal dispute had taken place. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the attackers ambushed Shar’s vehicle while it was driving through the sugarcane fields, where they had been hiding.

 

Casualties and Response

In the attack, Ali Muhammad Shar, a close associate of Sardar Shahryar Khan Shar, was killed on the spot. Two others, Sohrab Shar and Jan Muhammad Bugti, sustained serious injuries. Sources indicate that Umar Shar, a notable leader within the Shar community who had rushed to assist, was subsequently shot dead by police during the chaotic aftermath.

 

Reports suggest that Umar Shar had been in police custody at the time of the shooting, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death. His history includes multiple serious criminal cases registered against him in various police stations across Sindh and Punjab.

 

Police and Community Reaction

Following the attack, local police forces, along with thousands of members from the Shar community, arrived at the scene to provide assistance. The injured were transported to the Civil Hospital in Obawa for initial medical care before being transferred to Rahim Yar Khan Hospital for further treatment.

 

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Ghotki also reached the Ranoti village area, indicating the seriousness of the incident and the police's commitment to investigating the attack.

This violent ambush highlights the ongoing tribal tensions in the region, exacerbated by historical grievances and disputes among local factions. Sardar Shahryar Khan Shar's efforts to broker peace within his community could have led to his targeting by rival groups seeking to disrupt the dialogue.
