Terror Strikes Karak, Peshawar: 7 Killed Including Police & FC Personnel

Amid a concerning rise in terrorism across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), at least seven people — including four Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel and a senior police officer — were martyred in two separate attacks in Karak and Peshawar.

Karak Ambush: 4 FC Personnel Martyred

In a brazen daylight assault, unknown assailants targeted an FC vehicle in the Garagri area of Karak. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of four security personnel, including the vehicle's driver. Authorities say the attackers managed to flee the scene.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Governor Faisal Kundi strongly condemned the incident, vowing swift action against those responsible.

“We salute the security personnel and their families who sacrificed their lives for the country and the nation,” the KP CM’s press office said in a statement. Gandapur also instructed law enforcement agencies to immediately arrest the perpetrators.

Governor Kundi added: “The sacrifice of those martyred in the war against terrorism will not go in vain.”

Peshawar Shooting: Police Inspector Among 3 Killed

On Tuesday night, terror struck again in the provincial capital as Police Inspector Ali Hussain and two friends were gunned down in a targeted attack on Peshawar’s Warsak Road.

According to SSP Operations Masood Ahmed, four armed motorcyclists opened fire on the victims’ vehicle using a pistol and a submachine gun (SMG), killing all three on the spot.

“Geofencing and other investigative procedures are underway,” the SSP told local media.

Governor Kundi described the attack as “inhumane” and offered condolences to the victims’ families.

Background: TTP Threat Looms Over KP and Balochistan

Terror activities in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, have seen a disturbing uptick following the collapse of the ceasefire between the government and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022.

Just last month, a police officer deployed at a checkpoint in Karak's Koh-i-Maidan area was martyred in a similar attack. The assailants, suspected to be militants, escaped into the nearby mountainous region.

Security experts warn that with the TTP ramping up its activities and border regions becoming increasingly volatile, Pakistan may witness more such attacks unless a robust counter-terrorism strategy is enforced.

Nation Pays Tribute

As the province mourns the loss of brave law enforcement officers, pressure mounts on authorities to clamp down on terrorist elements operating in the region. Both federal and provincial leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring justice for the fallen.
