Khuzdar Blast Kills 5, Including 3 Children; Pakistan Blames Indian Proxies

A blast targeting a school bus in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district on Wednesday morning claimed the lives of five people, including three innocent children, and injured dozens more. The Pakistan military has blamed the attack on India, accusing it of using proxies to destabilise the country.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described the incident as a “cowardly and ghastly attack” orchestrated by India and carried out through its proxies in Balochistan. According to the ISPR, the attack occurred near the Khuzdar Zero Point and preliminary findings suggest it was a suicide bombing.

“This targeted attack on school-going children is part of a desperate and failing strategy by the terrorist state of India after its defeat in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos,” the ISPR said. “Planners, abettors and executors of this Indian-sponsored attack will be hunted down and brought to justice.”

Security forces, including the police and Frontier Corps, cordoned off the area and began investigations. The deceased and injured were transported to Khuzdar CMH, with critically wounded victims being referred to Quetta and Karachi for treatment.

PM Shehbaz, COAS Munir Visit Quetta

In response to the tragedy, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Quetta for emergency meetings. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the ceremony scheduled in Munir’s honour was postponed at his request due to the incident.

PM Shehbaz condemned the attack as a “barbaric act” and held India responsible. “The attack on innocent children is clear proof of hostility towards education and peace in Balochistan,” he said, pledging justice for the victims.

Strong Condemnations Across the Board

President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack, calling it an “inhuman crime” and vowed to expose what he called “Indian-backed terrorism” on international platforms.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti said India had resorted to “cowardly tactics” after failing on the battlefield. “We had intelligence that Ajit Doval was planning something, but we did not expect them to target children,” Bugti said, confirming four children had been killed and 42 injured.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also strongly condemned the attack, declaring terrorism against children as “the height of cowardice”.

HRCP, Civil Society React

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) issued a statement condemning the targeting of schoolchildren, calling it a “red line that must never be crossed”. It demanded swift and lawful prosecution of the perpetrators and urged the state to address long-standing issues in Balochistan through political dialogue and strengthened civilian governance.

Context and Background

The attack comes days after ISPR announced that 12 terrorists of “Indian proxy” outfits were killed in separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry recently accused India of activating its “assets” to intensify terrorist attacks across Pakistan.

This latest tragedy adds to the growing concern over cross-border terrorism, especially in Balochistan, which has long been a flashpoint for insurgent violence, often blamed on foreign interference.
