KP Governor Urges Posthumous Award for Hero Who Foiled Islamabad Attack

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to confer a posthumous national civil award on 22-year-old Oun Abbas, who lost his life while confronting a suicide bomber at Imambargah Qasr-i-Khadijatul Kubra in Islamabad on February 6.

At least 38 people were killed and over 150 injured when the bomber targeted the Friday congregation. According to eyewitnesses, Abbas abandoned his prayers and attempted to tackle the attacker, ultimately sacrificing his life.

In a letter dated February 11, Kundi praised Abbas for his “exceptional gallantry and supreme sacrifice,” noting that his courage prevented “a far greater tragedy” and saved countless lives. He recommended awards such as Sitara-i-Shujaat or Tamgha-i-Shujaat to honor Abbas’s heroism.

The governor emphasized that recognizing Abbas would serve as an enduring inspiration for Pakistan’s youth, highlighting courage, faith, and selflessness as the truest expressions of national spirit.

Earlier, PM Shehbaz had announced Rs 10 million for Abbas’s heirs, along with compensation for other victims: Rs 5 million for each martyred individual, Rs 3 million for critically injured, and Rs 1 million for those with minor injuries.
