Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the inaugural meeting of the US-led Board of Peace in Washington next week, the Foreign Office (FO) confirmed on Thursday. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also accompany him.
FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi confirmed the visit during a weekly briefing, following reports that PM Shehbaz is expected in Washington on February 18, with the Board of Peace meeting scheduled for February 19 at the US Institute of Peace.
“I can confirm that the prime minister will attend the upcoming Board of Peace meeting. He will be accompanied by the deputy prime minister and foreign minister,” Andrabi said.
He added that information about the rest of Pakistan’s delegation and the delegation’s engagements will be shared in due course. When asked if Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir would be part of the delegation, Andrabi said,
“We will share these details in due course … I do not have the details — neither on the itinerary, nor on the composition of the delegation.”
Pakistan is one of 14 founding members of the Board of Peace, signing its charter on January 22 during the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Board, formally proposed in September 2025 and established last month, is headquartered at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, with the US government serving as its official depository.
The board was originally intended to supervise Gaza’s temporary governance under President Trump’s Gaza plan, before being expanded to address broader global conflicts. Experts, however, have raised concerns, noting the lack of Palestinian representation and describing the structure as reminiscent of colonial oversight.
