Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari held a high-level meeting on Thursday at Aiwan-i-Sadr to review Pakistan’s political, economic, and security landscape, as well as the prevailing regional and global environment.

The meeting, according to a press release from the President’s Secretariat, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and several other senior officials. Key parliamentary leaders, including Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani and National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, were also present.

During the discussions, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to tackling foreign-backed terrorism and pledged that actions against terrorists and their facilitators would continue until complete elimination of such threats. The meeting also focused on ongoing political stability, economic reforms, and Pakistan’s position in regional and international affairs.

State broadcaster PTV noted that the meeting builds on a prior discussion in November 2025, when the premier and president addressed security concerns following multiple terrorist attacks in the country.

The officials stressed the importance of coordinated efforts between political and security institutions to strengthen governance, address economic challenges, and maintain law and order. Pakistan continues to face complex internal and external security challenges, and the leadership highlighted the need for national unity to safeguard the country’s interests.

The meeting comes amid ongoing economic reforms and initiatives aimed at boosting investment, stabilizing the currency, and enhancing Pakistan’s regional diplomacy. Both leaders emphasized the role of collaboration between the federal government, parliament, and security agencies in driving forward national priorities.
