KP Police Repel Multiple Terrorist Attacks in Bannu & Lakki Marwat

In a series of coordinated terrorist attacks, four police stations and a security checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts were targeted overnight, officials confirmed on Saturday. No casualties were reported as police successfully repelled the attacks.

Terrorist Assaults & Police Response

According to police reports, terrorists launched attacks on the Dadiwala and Pezo police stations in Lakki Marwat late Friday night. In a separate incident, a roadside bomb blast on Lakki Marwat’s Landiwah Road injured two police personnel, including the driver of the targeted vehicle. One attacker was killed in retaliatory action, and a search operation was launched to track down his accomplices.

In Bannu, unidentified armed men attacked the Khojri police post and hurled grenades at the Ghoriwala and Bakakhel police stations. Police responded with force, forcing the attackers to flee. Local villagers also came out in support of law enforcement, vowing to defend the checkpost alongside the police.

The outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for all the attacks in separate statements.

Officials Condemn Attacks, Praise KP Police

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi commended the KP Police for their swift and effective response. “The unwavering role of the KP Police in the war against terrorism is commendable,” he said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

KP Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Cowardly attacks in the dark of night cannot demoralize our police personnel.” He reassured the public that “all tactics of the terrorists will be foiled with an iron fist,” adding that commendation certificates and cash rewards will be given to the brave personnel.

Rising Terror Threat in Pakistan

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities over the past year, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the TTP’s decision to end its ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

Earlier this month, a major attack on the Bannu Cantonment left five soldiers martyred, while security forces eliminated 16 terrorists in response. In a separate counterterrorism operation in KP’s Jandola area, 10 terrorists were killed while attempting to storm a checkpost.

Pakistan currently ranks second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with a 45% rise in terror-related fatalities over the past year. A report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) revealed a sharp increase in civilian casualties in February alone.

Despite the escalating threat, security forces and law enforcement agencies remain steadfast in their efforts to combat terrorism and ensure national security.
