The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Alia Neelam, has cancelled the notification transferring two judges who were hearing cases related to the May 9 incidents.
Late last night, a notification had been issued approving the transfers: Judge Arshad Javed of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore, who had been handling the May 9 cases, was to be transferred to Bahawalnagar, while Judge Asif Bashir was to be moved from Bahawalnagar to Lahore.
Following the Chief Justice’s intervention, the notification has now been cancelled, and a new order has directed that both judges continue their current duties in their respective courts.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed has so far pronounced verdicts in three May 9 cases, making his continued presence critical for the ongoing proceedings.
The decision is being viewed as a measure to ensure continuity and avoid disruptions in the trial of cases connected to the May 9 events.
