POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) supremo Maulana Fazlur Rehman and former President Dr. Arif Alvi convened on Wednesday to review the proposed constitutional amendments currently under discussion. The meeting, held at Rehman’s residence in Islamabad, also included Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja among the attendees. The discussions centered around the implications of the proposed amendments and their potential impact on Pakistan's political landscape.
In a separate but related development, JUI-F leader Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri voiced concerns over the proposed amendments, emphasizing the need for thorough scrutiny. Speaking on Sunday, Haideri expressed frustration over the lack of access to the draft of the constitutional amendment bill. He questioned the government’s transparency, noting that the bill had not yet been provided to his party, which has hampered their ability to prepare a well-informed response.
Haideri criticized the expedited handling of the amendment process, stating that it would take at least a month to properly review the draft once received. He urged for a more detailed examination before any voting could occur, stressing the importance of parliamentary due diligence.
The unfolding situation highlights the growing political tensions surrounding the proposed constitutional changes, as various leaders call for a more measured approach to ensure comprehensive review and transparency.
