Maulana Fazlur Rehman Announces Million Marches for Palestine, Slams Government Failures

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced a series of million marches across major Pakistani cities to express solidarity with Palestine. The marches will be held in Lahore on April 27, Peshawar on May 11, Quetta on May 15, and Karachi, continuing the party’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.

During a press conference in Islamabad, Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized his party’s stance on the government's failures to protect the lives and property of Pakistani citizens. Rehman expressed deep concerns over the government’s inability to resolve critical issues, including insecurity in provinces such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh. He stated that armed groups were operating freely in these areas, making it unsafe for citizens, particularly children, to attend school, while businesses were being extorted for bribes.

“The situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh is indescribable. Armed groups are roaming, and the common people cannot send their children to school or even run their businesses without fear,” Rehman said.

The JUI-F leader also renewed his party’s stance on the controversial 2018 elections, reiterating that they were rigged and had no legitimacy. He further stated that the same skepticism applied to the upcoming 2024 elections, emphasizing the need for transparent and impartial elections. Rehman claimed that the government’s actions had undermined the people’s role in forming their government.

“We did not accept the rigged elections of 2018, and we reject the 2024 elections. We need free, fair, and transparent elections,” he said.

In addition to his criticism of the government’s performance, Maulana Fazlur Rehman condemned the Israeli regime’s actions against Palestinians. He described Israel as an illegitimate state, calling it a “war criminal” responsible for the martyrdom of thousands of Palestinian children and civilians. He also pointed out that Israel’s actions had been condemned by the International Court of Justice, although the US and European countries had ignored the court’s ruling.

“Israel is a war criminal, and its status is illegitimate. Thousands of Palestinian children have been martyred, and more than 50,000 peaceful citizens have been subjected to brutality,” Rehman said. “We will continue to stand with Palestine until its independence.”

The announcement of the marches comes at a time of escalating tension in Pakistan’s political landscape, with JUI-F emphasizing the importance of standing with the provinces if their rights are taken away. Rehman also acknowledged the need for possible joint action with other religious or parliamentary opposition parties if necessary.

“We are open to collaboration with other parties if joint action is required. The Jamiat Shura will decide on a strategy for this,” he said, also mentioning that there was no formal opposition alliance as of yet but mutual communication would continue.

The million marches are set to be a significant event for the JUI-F, with Maulana Fazlur Rehman reiterating his commitment to support Palestine while highlighting the failure of Pakistan's government to address critical domestic issues.
