Maulana Fazlur Rehman Demands Government Resignation, Calls for Fresh Elections

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has reiterated his stance that the February 8 elections were rigged, demanding the immediate resignation of the current government and the announcement of fresh elections.

Speaking to the media after attending a dinner hosted by PTI leader Asad Qaiser, the JUI chief emphasized that the constitutional term of the Chief Election Commissioner has already expired and called for consultations on appointing a new one.

The gathering, held at Qaiser's residence, was attended by several prominent political figures, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Omar Ayub, Junaid Akbar, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Allama Nasir Abbas, and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar.

Fazlur Rehman reiterated his longstanding position that the 2018 elections were also rigged, underscoring the need for new transparent polls to restore democratic legitimacy in the country.

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who was also present at the gathering, echoed Rehman’s sentiments, stating that all political parties in attendance agreed that the current government does not represent the will of the people.

"The need for fresh elections has never been more critical to ensure that the public's voice is genuinely reflected in governance," Abbasi said.

Political analysts believe the call for fresh elections is gaining momentum, with opposition leaders uniting on a common demand for transparent and fair polls. The government's response to these demands will shape the future political landscape of Pakistan.
