Maulana Fazlur Rehman Urges Calm Amid Pak-Afghan Tensions

Amid rising tensions along the Pak-Afghan border, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), has called for calm, restraint, and immediate diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.

Addressing the situation, Fazlur Rehman acknowledged Pakistan’s security concerns, particularly its demand that the Afghan Taliban rein in terrorist groups such as Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, Hafiz Gul Bahadur, and Baloch Liberation Army operating from Afghan soil.

He stressed that Afghanistan’s sovereignty and internal challenges must also be respected, warning that emotional reactions from either side could complicate relations further. Fazlur Rehman urged both countries to adopt a responsible approach grounded in mutual interests, a reliable security framework, and internationally recognized norms, emphasizing that “diplomatic efforts can provide a sustainable solution, whereas unilateral military actions will only deepen the crisis.” He called for an immediate ceasefire and appealed for support from peace-seeking nations in the region.

Meanwhile, ry","pakistan army general"], Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations, confirmed that Pakistani forces have targeted key military installations of the Afghan Taliban regime in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia through precision airstrikes.

Chaudhry said Pakistani troops successfully repulsed Taliban insurgents at 53 border locations, causing significant losses. “So far, 274 Taliban insurgents have been killed and over 400 injured. Seventy-three posts along the border have been destroyed, while 18 posts are now in our possession,” he said. He also reported the destruction of 115 insurgent tanks.

He added that the operation is ongoing under the oversight of the government and is “producing the desired results,” with direct supervision from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The developments come as the international community continues to urge both sides to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue.
