Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with the newly-appointed Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Dr Usman Anwar, on Wednesday, expressing optimism that the agency would evolve into a “model institution” under his leadership.
The meeting, held at FIA Headquarters in Islamabad, emphasized modernisation and enhanced public service. Naqvi said Anwar would “utilise all his energies and capabilities to transform the agency into an institution that meets public expectations” and pledged full support to make the FIA a “modern, strong, and effective organisation.”
Dr Usman Anwar, who previously served as Punjab Police Chief, assured that the agency would be upgraded to meet international standards through advanced technology and comprehensive training. “All necessary measures will be taken to improve the institution,” he said.
During the visit, the interior minister also assessed an under-construction committee room at FIA Headquarters. It was agreed that the building would be reconstructed and renovated to align with modern requirements.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the National Police Academy Commandant, the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency DG, the Islamabad Inspector General of Police, and other FIA officials.
Anwar’s appointment as FIA DG follows the replacement of Rao Abdul Kareem. His previous experience in law enforcement, particularly in high-profile assignments, has been cited as relevant to leading the agency. Following his appointment, Naqvi expressed confidence on social media that the public would witness “real, visible change in the coming months” under Anwar’s leadership.
The focus on modernisation, training, and technological upgrades signals the government’s intent to strengthen the FIA’s capacity to tackle crime, cyber threats, and other emerging security challenges.
