Murad Ali Shah Vows to Defy Court Over Jinnah Hospital Appointment

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has made a bold declaration, stating that he is prepared to risk contempt of court to appoint the head of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), which has been functioning without a leader for weeks.

Addressing the issue, CM Shah said, "Jinnah Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in Sindh, yet it has been operating without a head. The court removed the previous head, citing his deputation status. This leadership vacuum is unacceptable."

The chief minister emphasized that the hospital plays a critical role in providing healthcare services to the region and cannot afford further delays in leadership decisions. "The case has been pending in court for nearly two months. If no resolution comes by Monday, I will take matters into my own hands," he asserted.

CM Shah openly declared his readiness to defy the court's directive. "I will commit contempt of court by appointing a new head myself if the issue remains unresolved," he said, highlighting the urgency of addressing the administrative crisis.

Court’s Stance and the Leadership Vacuum
The leadership position at Jinnah Hospital became vacant after the court removed the former head, citing irregularities in his appointment under deputation rules. Despite ongoing legal proceedings, the absence of a decision has hindered the hospital’s operations.

Healthcare Crisis in Sindh
Jinnah Hospital is a critical healthcare institution serving thousands of patients daily. Without a head, the hospital's ability to provide timely and efficient care has been severely compromised. CM Shah’s statement underscores the Sindh government’s frustration over judicial delays in resolving the matter.

Public Reaction and Legal Implications
The chief minister’s remarks have sparked a debate over the balance between judicial authority and executive decisions. While some have commended his commitment to resolving the crisis, others have criticized his willingness to defy the court.

Legal experts have cautioned that any unilateral action by the CM could lead to serious legal consequences, including contempt proceedings.

Call for Resolution
Healthcare professionals and civil society have urged all parties to work towards an immediate resolution of the issue to avoid further disruptions in the hospital's operations.

As the Monday deadline looms, all eyes are on the judiciary and the Sindh government to see if the impasse can be resolved without escalating tensions.
