Sindh Govt Requests Federal Action to Arrest Extortionists Abroad

The Sindh government has reached out to the federal government to ensure the arrest of accused extortionists operating abroad following complaints from builders and traders in Karachi.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Saturday that extortionists abroad would not be spared and that the federal government had been contacted to take action against them.

Meanwhile, SSP SIU Dr. Imran stated that authorities are taking action against extortionists daily. He added that more than 50 extortionists have been arrested so far this year, while over 170 complaints have been lodged with law enforcement agencies.

Dr. Imran noted that an extortionist was killed in a recent encounter on Friday morning. A mobile phone recovered from the accused contained phone numbers of several traders as well as data related to extortion demands.

Regarding specific cases, Dr. Imran said that out of 10 cases reported by the builders’ representative organization, Tanzeemabad, three cases had been formally registered, five were not previously reported, and two were recent cases now being processed.

Authorities assured that continuous efforts are underway to curb extortion in the city and bring perpetrators to justice.
