PM Shehbaz Orders Intensified Crackdown on Tax Evasion

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed authorities to further intensify measures against tax evasion, stressing the need to strengthen revenue collection and ensure strict enforcement of tax laws.

The directives were issued during a review meeting chaired by the prime minister to assess the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). The meeting discussed various issues related to revenue collection, tax compliance, and enforcement mechanisms.

The prime minister emphasised that curbing tax evasion was critical for economic stability and instructed the FBR to enhance its efforts against non-compliant individuals and businesses. He underscored the importance of expanding the tax base and ensuring transparency in the collection process.

In addition, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed provincial governments to fully cooperate with the FBR in legal actions against illegal petrol pumps, noting that such operations not only evade taxes but also cause losses to the national exchequer.

He reiterated that coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities were essential to effectively address tax evasion and illicit economic activities, adding that the government would continue to take firm steps to improve fiscal discipline and revenue mobilisation.
