NAB Recovers Additional Rs 200 Million in Kohistan’s Rs 40 Billion Corruption Case

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has made another major breakthrough in the Rs 40 billion corruption case in Kohistan, recovering an additional Rs 200 million from the residence of the prime suspect, Qaiser Iqbal, during two separate operations.

According to NAB officials, Rs 100 million was seized in each operation, adding to the earlier recovery of Rs 1.6 billion from the same house. The total recovered amount has now reached Rs 1.8 billion.

Investigators revealed that the previously recovered money had been hidden inside paint cans, a tactic uncovered through information provided by Qaiser Iqbal’s arrested wife during interrogation.

Qaiser Iqbal, who served as a clerk and later head clerk in the Communication and Works (C&W) Department of Upper Kohistan since August 2013, is accused of playing a central role in fabricating fake documents to illegally withdraw public funds from the government treasury.

Sources said that billions of rupees were transferred to bank accounts belonging to Iqbal’s wife and a local contractor named Mumtaz, while several influential figures are also suspected of benefiting from the large-scale embezzlement scheme.

The NAB team has continued its investigation into the case, which is considered one of the largest corruption scandals in the region’s history. Officials stated that more arrests and recoveries are likely as the probe expands to include other government departments and contractors linked to the scam.

The accountability watchdog has vowed to bring all individuals involved in the corruption network to justice and recover the looted public funds in full.
