National Assembly Passes Income Tax Bill, Approves Key Amendments

National Assembly Passes Income Tax Bill, Approves Key Amendments

The Income Tax Amendment Bill 2024 was passed by a majority in the National Assembly during a crucial legislative session on Friday. The bill, presented by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, received strong opposition from opposition benches but was ultimately approved.

In addition to the tax reforms, the assembly also passed several significant resolutions and bills.

 

Key Highlights from the Session:

CSS Age Limit Raised to 35

A major development was the approval of a resolution to increase the upper age limit for CSS (Central Superior Services) exams from 30 to 35 years. The resolution, presented by PML-N MNA Nousheen Iftikhar, also recommended allowing five attempts for every candidate appearing in the exam.

Detention of Suspects Amendment Bill 2025

Presented by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Detention of Suspects Amendment Bill was also passed, aiming to revise procedures and timeframes related to the detention of individuals under suspicion.

Pakistan Citizenship Bill 2024

Another key bill presented by Talal Chaudhry, the Pakistan Citizenship Bill 2024, was approved with amendments to Section 14A and Section 4 of the Citizenship Act.

FBISE Amendment Bill 2024

The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Amendment Bill 2024, presented by Farah Naz Akbar, also gained approval. Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry proposed amendments to clauses 3, 4, and 6, which were passed by the House.

Ban on Child Marriage

In a landmark move, the National Assembly approved a bill banning child marriage, presented by PPP MNA Sharmila Farooqui. The bill is aimed at curbing underage marriages and protecting child rights across Pakistan.

Amendment to Rule 288

The House also passed an amendment to Rule 288 of the National Assembly Rules by a majority vote.

 

The session concluded with the adjournment until 5:00 PM on Monday.
