POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, addressed the UN Security Council on the worsening situation in occupied Kashmir, drawing attention to the grave issue of enforced disappearances and mass graves.
During the Security Council briefing, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed revealed that more than 2,000 Kashmiris have been recently arrested by Indian authorities, citing terrorism as a pretext. He further disclosed the emergence of thousands of unknown and unidentified graves in Kashmir, which point to large-scale human rights abuses and atrocities committed by Indian forces.
The Pakistani envoy explained that Indian security forces systematically abduct Kashmiris, subject them to torture, and then kill them, often disposing of the bodies in mass graves. He expressed concern that India has persistently refused to permit forensic investigations into over seven thousand mass graves that have surfaced in recent years.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmed emphasized that these actions represent a blatant attempt by India to suppress the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination through state-sponsored repression. He described the ongoing enforced disappearances in Kashmir as a profound human tragedy demanding immediate international attention and intervention.
This briefing adds to Pakistan’s continued efforts to spotlight human rights violations in Kashmir on global platforms, urging the international community to hold India accountable and to ensure justice for the missing and disappeared.
