Nepali sherpa guide Kami Rita Sherpa has reached the summit of Mount Everest for an unprecedented 30th time, setting a new world record. This achievement comes just 10 days after his 29th ascent to the world's highest peak.
Kami Rita, 54 years old, accomplished this extraordinary feat by scaling the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) peak via the traditional southeast ridge route. His remarkable achievement was confirmed by Nepali tourism official Khim Lal Gautam.
Having first conquered Everest in 1994, Kami Rita has since made nearly annual ascents, with the exception of three years when the mountain was closed for various reasons. His consistent dedication to mountaineering has now solidified his status as one of the most accomplished climbers in history.
Khim Lal Gautam shared the news of Kami Rita's historic achievement on social media, noting that he "broke his own record" and marking his 30th successful ascent to the summit of Mount Everest.
While Kami Rita's accomplishments are unparalleled, another sherpa climber follows closely with 27 successful ascents of Everest.
Mountaineering is a vital tourism activity in Nepal, contributing significantly to revenue and employment in the country, which is home to eight of the world's 14 highest peaks.
Details of Kami Rita's latest ascent on Wednesday are eagerly awaited, as mountaineering enthusiasts and admirers celebrate his remarkable achievement and unwavering dedication to conquering the world's highest mountain.
