New Toshakhana Case Against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Transferred to Special Judge Central

The Accountability Court of Islamabad has transferred the new Toshakhana case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to the Special Judge Central. The decision came during a hearing on bail applications related to the case.

Imran Khan's lawyer, Salman Safdar, argued that after recent amendments and rehabilitation in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws, the Toshakhana case no longer holds ground. "There is no crime under the current law," he contended. The NAB prosecutor, however, maintained that after the restoration of the NAB amendments, the new Toshakhana reference falls outside NAB’s jurisdiction.

Judge Muhammad Ali Waraich of the Accountability Court took a break during the hearing and later passed the ruling, transferring the case. The bail applications in this case will now be heard by the relevant court on September 10.

This transfer follows Imran Khan's recent exemption request in the £190 million reference, citing the Supreme Court’s decision on NAB amendments as the basis for his acquittal. The Accountability Court has adjourned its proceedings on that plea until September 10 as well.

The Toshakhana case revolves around the alleged misappropriation of state gifts by the PTI founder and his wife during Khan's tenure as Prime Minister.
