New Zealand’s aggressive batting display led them to a commanding five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second T20I at Dunedin, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Chasing a rain-reduced target of 136 in 15 overs, New Zealand reached 137-5 with 11 balls to spare, thanks to an explosive start from openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. The duo launched a relentless assault, hitting seven of the first eight scoring shots for sixes.

After a maiden first over from Shaheen Shah Afridi, Allen took charge, smashing three sixes off Mohammad Ali in the second over. Seifert soon followed with a brutal onslaught, hammering four sixes off Afridi’s second over to race to 45 off just 22 balls. Allen contributed 38 off 16 balls, with both openers clearing the boundary five times each.

Despite losing four wickets in quick succession, New Zealand secured the win comfortably, with Mitch Hay’s unbeaten 21 guiding them home.

Earlier, Pakistan struggled after being put in to bat, losing Hasan Nawaz for a duck for the second time in the series. Skipper Salman Agha led the fightback with a solid 46 off 28 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. Shadab Khan added a quickfire 26 off 14, while Afridi contributed 22* off 14.

New Zealand’s bowling was evenly shared, with four bowlers picking up two wickets each, including Ben Sears and Jimmy Neesham, who were recalled for this match.

Pakistan made one change, bringing in Haris Rauf for Abrar Ahmed, while New Zealand replaced Tim Robinson and Kyle Jamieson.

With this win, New Zealand have the chance to seal the series in the third T20I in Auckland on Friday.
