POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The Pakistan Army has intensified its operations along the border, successfully neutralizing multiple Afghan Taliban positions in Balochistan’s Chaman sector this Tuesday.
According to security sources, the strikes were a direct response to "unprovoked aggression" from across the border. Under the banner of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, Pakistani forces targeted and destroyed several key installations, including the Sarshan, Al-Marjan, and Edhi posts, along with various military vehicles and infrastructure.
Context of the Escalation
-
The Mission: Operation Ghazab lil-Haq was launched in late February 2026 after a series of cross-border attacks. While there was a brief pause in mid-March due to diplomatic mediation by neighboring Islamic countries, the operation resumed on March 26 with the government stating it would continue until all security objectives are met.
-
Wider Crackdown: This action in Chaman follows a similar strike in South Waziristan just days ago, where gun positions were destroyed after Afghan firing injured three civilians. Earlier this month, a major infiltration attempt in the Ghulam Khan sector was also foiled, resulting in significant casualties for the attackers.
-
The Core Issue: Islamabad continues to pressure the Afghan interim government to dismantle TTP sanctuaries on their soil—a request that officials say has largely been ignored, leading to this more aggressive defensive posture.
