Pakistan Warns Afghan Taliban Against Further Provocations After Cross-Border Strikes

The Foreign Office (Pakistan) issued a stern warning on Friday that any further provocations by the Afghan Taliban regime or terrorist groups “will be met with a measured, decisive and befitting response.”

The statement came after Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in response to overnight firing from across the Pak-Afghan border on February 26. The operation targeted Fitna al Khawarij — the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) — and Fitna al Hindustan, a term used by Pakistan for terrorist groups operating in Balochistan.

“The armed forces carried out precise operations, inflicting heavy losses on terrorist outfits and targeting their logistical support bases in Afghanistan,” the FO said, emphasizing that the actions were “in exercise of Pakistan’s right to self-defence and to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, as well as that of the wider region and beyond.”

The FO cautioned the Afghan Taliban regime and affiliated terrorist groups against attempts to “undermine the security and welfare of the people of Pakistan,” reiterating that any further provocations will receive a “measured, decisive and befitting response.”

Pakistan stressed its commitment to peace and regional stability, while noting that repeated terrorist attacks from Afghan soil, allegedly with backing from the Taliban regime and India, forced the country to act. The FO called on the Afghan regime to end impunity for these terrorist groups and take concrete, verifiable action against them.

“Pakistan holds the right to take all appropriate actions in self-defence and to protect its citizens in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter,” the statement said.

The operation and warning mark a continuation of Pakistan’s campaign to secure its borders and eliminate terrorism emanating from Afghan territory, following diplomatic efforts to address cross-border threats.
