Pakistani Ambassador Praises US Role in Ceasefire, Warns on India’s Water Blockade

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has acknowledged the pivotal role played by the US in fostering the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India. Speaking to the media, the ambassador highlighted President Donald Trump’s announcement of the ceasefire as evidence of the US’s constructive involvement in de-escalating tensions.

Ambassador Sheikh praised the US leadership’s efforts in promoting peace and expressed hope that the ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at resolving the Kashmir dispute would continue with vigor. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to a sustainable and permanent solution to the Kashmir issue, aligned with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Strongly condemning India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, Sheikh warned that any attempt to stop the flow of water to Pakistan would be considered a declaration of war. He underscored that there is no provision under international law for such unilateral actions and described India’s move as a continuation of lawlessness.

The ambassador further cautioned that the international community would not tolerate the use of water as a weapon against a population of over 250 million Pakistanis. He labeled the act as illegal and inhumane, equating it to war aggression.

Addressing recent inflammatory rhetoric from Indian leaders, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh accused India of promoting a hateful and hegemonic ideology, specifically citing the display of the “Akhand Bharat” map in the Indian Parliament. He described this as evidence of dangerous nationalist tactics designed to divert attention from internal challenges, including electoral setbacks.

Sheikh also exposed India’s involvement in destabilizing activities in Balochistan, condemning the support for terrorists responsible for violence against innocent civilians, particularly children.

In conclusion, the ambassador called upon the international community to exert pressure on India to resolve the Kashmir dispute peacefully and in accordance with the UN’s directives, emphasizing that a lasting peace in the region hinges on this crucial step.
