PM Shehbaz Stresses Provincial Unity, Highlights Balochistan Development Priorities

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday emphasized the need for consensus among Pakistan’s provinces to ensure unity and uphold the “true spirit of a federation,” while highlighting development priorities for Balochistan.

Addressing the Balochistan Workshop in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz recalled past efforts to address the province’s challenges, including marathon meetings ahead of the 2009 National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. “Punjab was ready to contribute whatever amount was required to meet Balochistan’s demands,” he noted, citing the example of cooperation as the essence of a united federation.

The prime minister stressed that resolving Balochistan’s issues requires a shared vision: “Pakistan is our home and we have to put out the fire together.” He underscored that the province voluntarily joined Pakistan, describing the event as “something history will always remember in golden words.”

Highlighting Balochistan’s wealth, PM Shehbaz said the province is blessed with “infinite natural resources running into trillions of dollars,” much of which remain untapped. He called for self-introspection over the last decade, emphasizing that unity among all communities—Baloch, Pashtuns, Punjabis, and others—is critical.

He also addressed infrastructure challenges, citing the N-25 highway connecting Karachi to Chaman, known locally as the “khooni road” due to frequent accidents. PM Shehbaz explained that funds saved from lower oil prices were redirected toward such development projects to improve safety and harmony in the province.

“Decisions like these promote provincial affection and national unity. Through them, Pakistan can overcome challenges and ensure equitable growth for all provinces,” he asserted.

Throughout his speech, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of harmony and peace among all segments of society, encouraging a collective sense of ownership and active participation in Pakistan’s economic and social progress.
