POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
An important meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Azad Kashmir parliamentary party was held at Zardari House, Islamabad, where it was decided to bring a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Chaudhry Anwarul Haq.
According to PPP sources, the party has secured the required number to successfully table the no-confidence motion against the sitting Prime Minister. The meeting also discussed the potential candidates for the new premiership, indicating that a leadership change in AJK may be imminent.
Party insiders said that Chaudhry Yasin, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, and Sardar Yaqoob are being considered as strong contenders for the Prime Minister’s position. The participants of the meeting reviewed possible political alignments and strategies to ensure a smooth transition of power.
The parliamentary huddle was presided over by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while Faryal Talpur also participated in the discussions. The meeting reportedly focused on consolidating internal unity and coordinating efforts with allied lawmakers to ensure the motion’s success.
Sources added that the PPP leadership will brief President Asif Ali Zardari today on the outcome of the discussions and the recommendations finalized during the meeting.
Political observers say that the move reflects the PPP’s efforts to reassert its influence in AJK politics, particularly after recent rifts and realignments within the assembly.
If the no-confidence motion succeeds, the PPP will lead the formation of a new government in Azad Kashmir, potentially marking a significant shift in the region’s political landscape.
