Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah has been acquitted in a car-ramming case registered against him in 2020, as the prosecution failed to present evidence of his involvement.
Court Proceedings & Acquittal
The Judicial Magistrate of Gujranwala presided over the hearing, during which the public prosecutor could not provide substantial evidence against Sanaullah. As a result, the court ruled in his favor, leading to his acquittal.
The case was registered at Satellite Town police station in October 2020 when Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) held a rally in Gujranwala. The PTI-led government at the time accused Sanaullah of running over police officers with his vehicle during the event.
Political Context & Reactions
The case against Rana Sanaullah was widely seen as politically motivated, as it was filed at a time when opposition parties were actively protesting against the PTI government.
Legal experts argue that the lack of concrete evidence and the event's political background contributed to the decision.
Following the verdict, PML-N supporters hailed the court’s decision, calling it a victory for justice. However, political opponents criticized the ruling, labeling it an example of selective justice.
