Pregnant Woman Killed by Robbers; Another Biker Dies in Karachi Accident

Two separate incidents claimed two lives in Karachi on Friday evening, reflecting the city’s persistent issues with street crime and traffic safety.

In the first incident, a pregnant woman was gunned down by armed robbers near Superhighway while she was returning home with her husband on a motorbike. The SITE-Superhighway Industrial Area police identified the deceased as 26-year-old Saima Irfan.

The couple was intercepted near Pareshan Chowk in Faqeera Goth by two suspects on a motorcycle. According to a police spokesperson, the robbers attempted to loot the couple at gunpoint. However, when the victims resisted, the robbers opened fire, fatally shooting Saima. She sustained a critical bullet wound to the chest and died on the spot.

Her body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed that the victim was pregnant and had been shot at very close range, which made the injury fatal.

The incident has sparked outrage and fear among locals, as incidents of violent street crime continue to plague the city. Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation, but no arrests had been made by the time this report was filed.

In a separate and equally tragic incident, 25-year-old Farhan Sohrab was killed when a speeding trailer hit his motorcycle near Steel Mills Chowrangi on the National Highway.

Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Police are working to trace the vehicle using CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. The victim's body was moved to a nearby hospital.

Both tragedies have intensified calls from the public for improved policing, stricter traffic enforcement, and increased efforts to curb street crimes that have made everyday travel a risk for Karachiites.
