President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the de-notification of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, a judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), following his disqualification over a degree case.
The decision was taken on the advice of the Prime Minister and comes after the IHC declared Justice Jahangiri’s appointment illegal due to ineligibility for a valid LLB degree at the time of his appointment.
A two-member bench of the Islamabad High Court had ruled that Justice Jahangiri could not hold office and directed him to vacate his position, citing the degree discrepancy. Following the court’s ruling, the President formally de-notified him from the post of judge.
This marks the conclusion of the legal proceedings surrounding Justice Jahangiri’s appointment, reaffirming the judiciary’s commitment to constitutional and qualification requirements for judges.
