The prosecution has filed an appeal in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the acquittal of PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the May 9 violence case, according to a report by Geo News.
The appeal requests the court to declare Qureshi’s acquittal null and void, arguing that the trial court’s verdict was “contrary to the facts and evidence on record.”
In its petition, the prosecution maintained that the trial court failed to properly evaluate the evidence and testimonies presented against the former foreign minister. The appeal contends that Qureshi’s involvement in the May 9 incidents was established through credible evidence that the trial court ignored.
It is pertinent to mention that in August 2025, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had acquitted Shah Mehmood Qureshi in connection with the May 9 riots that erupted following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The prosecution’s challenge now places the acquittal under judicial review, with the LHC expected to fix a hearing date soon.
The May 9 violence had led to widespread arrests of PTI leaders and supporters after attacks on military and state installations across the country.
