PTI Announces Sit-in Outside Adiala Jail Over Imran Khan’s Solitary Confinement

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to stage a sit-in and peaceful protest outside Adiala Jail against the alleged solitary confinement of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, and the restrictions on his family’s access to him.

The decision was made during a PTI Punjab meeting chaired by Chief Organiser Aliya Hamza Malik. The meeting was attended by PTI Punjab President Hammad Azhar, regional presidents, General Secretary, and Provincial Information Secretary Shaukat Basra.

According to party leadership, the Punjab government is subjecting Imran Khan to "mental torture" through prolonged solitary confinement. PTI plans to mobilize its elected representatives, including MNAs, MPAs, senators, and ticket-holders, to participate in the sit-in on a rotational basis. The party will consult its core and political committees, as well as Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and Opposition Leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz, for finalizing protest details.

PTI Punjab President Hammad Azhar criticized the military establishment, stating that it had deeply damaged Pakistan’s political and economic landscape. “Go back to your barracks and hand over the country to the people of Pakistan,” he tweeted. Azhar also denounced the alleged harassment of party leaders through fake FIRs and slammed the Punjab government for what he described as a failing economy disguised by state-sponsored advertisements.

Aliya Hamza Malik condemned police raids on PTI workers, alleging violations of privacy and mistreatment of women. She announced that the party would file FIRs against the officers involved. Malik reaffirmed that PTI’s protests would continue until Imran Khan and other detained leaders and workers were released.

Meanwhile, PTI Punjab Information Secretary Shaukat Basra accused the government of attempting to suppress the party through political persecution. He called the current administration a “fake Form-47 government,” alleging that it had overburdened the masses with excessive taxes and utility bills while failing to address their grievances.

PTI Seeks Court Permission for Minar-i-Pakistan Rally

In a separate development, PTI Punjab has approached the Lahore High Court, seeking permission to hold a public gathering at Minar-i-Pakistan on March 22. PTI Punjab Senior Vice President Akmal Khan Bari filed a writ petition through Advocate Sardar Khurram Latif Khosa, challenging the deputy commissioner’s inaction on their request.

The petition states that PTI submitted a formal application for the rally in accordance with the law, but the authorities have yet to respond. The party argues that March 23 holds historical significance, and PTI wishes to commemorate it with a gathering on the eve of Pakistan Day.

The petition also requests the court to restrain authorities from harassing, intimidating, or coercing PTI leaders and their families. It urges the deputy commissioner to process the application fairly and in accordance with constitutional rights.

The Lahore High Court has scheduled a hearing for the case on February 24 before Justice Farooq Haider.

With PTI gearing up for protests and legal battles, tensions between the party and the government continue to rise as the political landscape remains uncertain.
