Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) challenging the March 13 and 14, 2024, decisions related to the allocation of reserved seats in the provincial legislature.
The petition, submitted by PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa General Secretary Ali Asghar, names the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and others as respondents. The petitioner argues that PTI was not granted a fair hearing in the original case, which dealt with the distribution of reserved seats for women and minorities.
According to the petition, the reserved seats rightfully belong to PTI based on their electoral performance, and the earlier High Court ruling deprived the party of its due share without proper representation in the legal proceedings.
Ali Asghar stated in the petition that the PHC was misled during the earlier hearings and requested that the court nullify its previous verdicts issued in March 2024. He also sought legal standing for the party to be heard on the matter of reserved seats allocation.
The petition is the latest move in PTI’s ongoing legal battle over parliamentary representation following the controversial 2024 general elections, which the party claims were marred by manipulation and unfair practices.
The case could have significant implications for the balance of power in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, where reserved seats play a critical role in determining legislative strength.
The PHC is expected to take up the petition in the coming days.
