POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry on Tuesday criticised the government over the handling of the May 9 cases, calling them politically motivated and saying they have lost their significance. He stated that the government should stop political battles and focus on the welfare of the people.
After the hearing of the GHQ attack case in the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi, Chaudhry told media that “the government is discussing May 9 cases everywhere to divert attention from its poor performance.” He added, “The country is facing multiple crises, but the government seems to have no clear direction.”
Chaudhry said tensions have increased on both the government and opposition sides and every effort to reduce it should be welcomed. He suggested that the release of those imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail should be considered as a step toward easing the situation. He further emphasised that PTI founder Imran Khan should be released in accordance with the law.
“The government should prioritise the country’s challenges instead of prolonging politically motivated cases,” he added.
