PTI Leaders, Including Imran Khan’s Sisters, Arrested Near Adiala Jail

Tensions escalated near Adiala Jail on April 8, 2025, as several key Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and the sisters of Imran Khan, the jailed party founder, were arrested during a protest. Among those detained were Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Alia Hamza, Shafqat Awan, and other prominent PTI figures. These arrests occurred as PTI workers tried to approach the jail to meet Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

According to police reports, the women, including Imran Khan's sisters, were detained near the Gorakhpur checkpoint, an area close to the jail. They were then taken to a private wedding hall in Uttara, where they were held in a police van in the lawn of the venue. The main gate of the wedding hall was closed, and access was restricted to the public. Police officers were stationed with the detained women to maintain security.

The arrest of the women sparked outrage among PTI workers, who clashed with police and pelted stones. There was also a brief scuffle involving Atif Khan, a senior PTI leader. Tayyaba Raja, another PTI activist, was also detained during the protests.

At the same time, Aleema Khan, Imran Khan's sister, was stopped by police a short distance from Adiala Jail. Police set up checkpoints around the area, effectively blocking any access to the facility. The timing of the detentions coincided with the scheduled family visit to meet Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, who are currently incarcerated in the jail.

Barrister Gohar's Statement:
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar condemned the detentions, calling it an unlawful action. He stated, “The sisters of the founder of PTI should have been allowed to meet him under a court order, as is the case with other political families. We were not informed about these arrests, and this move is deeply concerning.”

Barrister Gohar further emphasized that, similar to the family of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan’s family should also have had the right to meet him. He reiterated that PTI would continue to fight against such measures, which he views as politically motivated.

Sources revealed that the detained individuals will be processed according to the law. However, PTI has vocally condemned the action, citing it as part of a broader effort to silence opposition and intimidate the party.
