POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Atif Khan has been summoned by the anti-corruption department in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the Malam Jabba project. Sources reveal that the anti-corruption department has issued a summons notice to Khan, requesting his presence on November 12.
The Malam Jabba project, involving the development of a tourism site in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has been controversial, with earlier investigations conducted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). The case was reportedly closed by NAB, but anti-corruption authorities have renewed their inquiries, citing unresolved questions about possible financial misconduct.
In response to the summons, Atif Khan criticized the timing and motive, suggesting that his own party’s government had prompted the notice. “The NAB had closed the Malam Jabba case,” he stated, “yet someone is reopening it, which I believe harms our party’s integrity.”
Khan, a prominent PTI figure and a former provincial minister for tourism, maintained that he will continue advocating for transparency and raising his concerns within PTI’s internal forums. "I am committed to telling the truth and will remain vocal about such issues within the party," he added.
This renewed scrutiny has reignited debate over accountability and governance within PTI, especially concerning high-profile development projects in KP. Observers have suggested that Khan’s stance could potentially lead to a wider discussion about internal party accountability, as well as the implications of revisiting cases previously closed by NAB.
